How to Write a Competitor Research Brief With AI

Practical guides from the team building Staffmor.

To write a competitor research brief with AI, give it a decision, a short list of public pages and the same few things to compare on each. Ask for every fact with its source and the date it was seen, and for "not stated" wherever a page is silent. A competitor brief is useful when it compares like with like and admits what it couldn't find.

The example uses two invented workshop pages, not real businesses.

Decide what you are comparing

The owner here wants to know one thing: what do other workshops tell people before they book? That gives three criteria: how long the session is, what to bring, and what the booking step is.

  • Page A: a two-hour session, tools supplied.
  • Page B: a three-hour session. Nothing about equipment.

Use the businesses' own pages for prices and features, and note the date. Don't sign up for anything, and don't treat a third party's estimate as the company's own number.

The request

The request: "Compare the public pages below on session length, equipment instructions and the booking step. Cite the page and the date you saw it for each fact. Write 'Not stated' where a page doesn't say. Keep what the pages say separate from suggestions for our own page. Do not sign up, contact anyone or buy access."

What comes back

  • Length: A says two hours, B says three.
  • Equipment: A supplies tools. B: not stated.
  • For our page: put our tools policy beside the booking button.
  • Unknown: attendance, satisfaction, how well either page converts.

The mistake to watch for

"Not stated" is not "no." Page B doesn't mention tools. A brief that turns that into "B makes customers buy their own tools" has invented a fact about a competitor, and you will repeat it to a customer. Silence on a page tells you about the page.

The other one: longer is not better. Three hours against two tells you the sessions differ. It tells you nothing about which teaches more.

Date it

Competitors change their pages. Keep the date on every fact and re-check before you use any of it in public. This brief describes what offers say. What customers experience is a different question, and you answer it by talking to customers.

Run it in your Staffmor office

Open the office on the computer running it with its Start Staffmor launcher. If you already have a paired web office, open it here. Paste this request and the source material into the conversation. Use your approved Codex connection, or ask your open Claude Code session to "Check Staffmor for work." A saved request is not a completed result. Review the answer or file when it comes back and reply with corrections. Ask for the fact table first and the recommendations second.

Staffmor writes the comparison from the pages you give it. It does not log in anywhere or contact anyone. New to Staffmor? Set up your office with Codex or Claude Code and an empty folder. Use your own supported AI account and approve the download, office activation and local folder/network access during setup. Claude Code pickup is manual; keep that local session open.
